Horse Riding told by Club Horse
Let’s talk about horse riding, to which we have dedicated our Bags Collections, describing the meaning of these two words in the simplest and most complete way possible.

Horse Riding
Equestrianism (from latin equester, equestr-, equus, ‘horseman’, ‘horse’), commonly known as horse riding (in British English) or horseback riding (American English), includes the disciplines of riding, driving or vaulting with horses.
This broad description includes the use of horses for practical working purposes, transportation, recreational activities, artistic or cultural exercises, and competitive sport.

Horse riding. A brief history
The sporting use of the horse by man, whether competitive or not, is called horse riding, an activity that presents a range of disciplines, some of which are Olympic, and is practiced individually or in teams, in covered structures, in riding schools. ‘open or in the countryside, and is one of the oldest activities of man with the horse.
Kikkuli, master of horses of Mitannic origin, is the author of the oldest treatise on equestrian training (in the image) entitled: “The Care and Nutrition of the Cart Horse” dated 1,350 BC. while the oldest and most famous manual, which also deals with how to ride a horse, is Xenophon’s “Sull’Equitazione” (Athens, about 430/425 BC – Corinth, about 355 BC) and there is no other activity of man for which so many in-depth texts have been written, often connected to the military environment, where it was the natural prerogative of the cavalry.

According to the ancient Greeks and Romans, those who knew how to ride a horse acquired value in society and, since then, the title of knight is an expression of nobility.
Horse riding: coming to the present day
Coming to the present day, since the internal combustion engine has transformed the way of traveling, transporting and waging wars, the relationship between man and horse has changed and, from the twentieth century onwards, horse riding has two different types of mounts.

Horse riding: two different types of riding
Work riding: all types of riding that have had or have to do with work activities, mainly for the breeding of livestock such as, for example, the Western of the American cowboys, the Vaquera of the Argentine and Spanish gauchos and the Maremmana of the Maremma cowboys, in the image.

Sport or English riding: all types of riding that have to do with competitive sport and in particular with Olympic disciplines such as, for example, show jumping, dressage, cross country and endurance riding, in the image.
