Punta Ala owes its name to the aviator Italo Balbo who bought almost the entire promontory in 1930.

Punta Ala is the promontory at the southern end of the Gulf of Follonica, in the beautiful Maremma, in the municipality of Castiglione della Pescaia, about twenty kilometers to the south.

Originally Punta Ala was only a territory for grazing cattle, then it became a Roman port and, from the second half of the 1900s, it has been a place that attracts elite tourism.

The Scoglio dello Sparviero is a very small island located less than a mile off the coast of Punta Ala, where Italo Balbo had his beautiful villa built in which he received the most important personalities of the time.

The promontory of Punta Ala overlooking the sea is covered by typical Mediterranean vegetation and the clarity of the sea overlooked by the rocks of the south side, is in perfect harmony with the very fine sandy beach of the Plateau on the north coast.

The beach near the port is not very large but offers a wild and charming atmosphere, with its white pebbles and allows you to reach some rocks, to enjoy this wonderful sea in relaxation.

But Punta Ala also boasts a very long beach, which can be accessed from the pine forest and which offers an excellent solution for those looking for a holiday surrounded by nature.

Punta Ala is located at the southern end of the Gulf of Follonica. It is a fraction of the Municipality of Castiglione della Pescaia, from which it is about 20 km to the north, along the provincial road SP 158 delle Collacchie and, if you are traveling with your horse, read our advice here. At the Castiglione della Pescaia exit, take the SS 322 delle Collacchie towards Follonica, turn left onto the road that leads to Punta Ala and, after 4 kilometers, you will arrive at the pine forest in Capanna Civinini, where you can park and leave for the walk.
